Barry Blumenfeld (Executive and Artistic Director) founded TAPFUSION in 1997.

He has since choreographed over a dozen works for TAPFUSION that have been presented in NY, Florida, Maryland and Washington, DC, and was the recipient of a Choreographers Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Barry has been a dance educator for 30 years in a wide range of environments including public schools, private pre-schools, studios, private K-12 schools and universities, including American University, Gallaudet University, University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and New York University.

He is on the faculty of Friends Seminary School in Manhattan where he has built their dance program over the past 25 years, is an adjunct professor at New York University and on the faculty of the Dance Education Lab of The 92nd Street Y.

He holds a BA in Psychology and an MA in Dance from American University and is a graduate of the Dance Education Laboratory of the 92nd Street Y; a certified Level 1 Teacher of Language of Dance®; a certified yoga instructor; and a Registered Dance Educator.

Barry serves the field of Dance Education as the President of the New York State Dance Association and was a recipient of the Outstanding PreK-12 Dance Educator Award from NYSDEA in 2017.

In 2019 he received the Outstanding Leadership Award from the National Dance Education Organization.

Barry wrote a monthly “Ask the Experts” column for Dance Teacher Magazine for 6 years, as well, and is the co-creator of the DEL Dancemaker App.
